Perfumery is an art that men have been trying to tame for a long time. We remember in particular Cleopatra who liked to take baths filled with rose petals. In addition, the parents of a certain Olivier Cresp were rose and jasmine growers in this region. In other words, the latter is a perfumer who was immersed in this universe from an early age.
Olivier Cresp, a child of perfumery
Renowned perfumer, Olivier Cresp seems to have fallen into the world of perfumery from his earliest childhood. The latter was born in Grasse into a family of farmers. Her great-grandfather grew roses and jasmine, while her grandfather and father traded them. Thus, perfumery is for him much more than a profession and it is more akin to a family heritage. Olivier Cresp therefore made his sense of smell work very early on. The conversations of his childhood revolved exclusively around perfume and he keeps an intact memory of the scents perfuming his house as well as the workshops of his parents. Olivier Cresp’s career
Olivier Cresp has been a perfumer since 1975. He first spent 12 years at Quest before joining Firmenich in 1992. It was also within the latter that he became a master perfumer in 2006. Much more than uu simple talent, he owes this destiny to an entire childhood devoted to intensively learning things about raw materials. Her first perfume conception dates back to the age of 9 or 10. He had collected all kinds of flowers before soaking them in alcohol. Of his confession, the result was also rather poor. Fortunately for us, it has greatly improved since that day. Each of his compositions is very different even if he admits to being literally in love with cedar. He incorporates as much in his perfumes for men as for women, in order to give them more intensity and elegance. Such is here, according to him, his real signature.
Olivier Cresp is a genius of perfumery. We owe him many famous perfumes like Angel by Thierry Mugler, Cerruti 1881 Acqua Forte, Dune pour Homme by Dior or even Kokorico by Jean-Paul Gauthier to name a few. Each of his projects is for him a real challenge, at the same time exciting, creative, unprecedented which he hopes will perhaps one day match the famous Shalimar de Guerlain, his favorite perfume.
