The tragic fate of Annick Goutal
The history of the Camille Goutal house began thanks to Annick Goutal, the latter’s mother. She is an emblematic figure in the world of perfume, creator of the brand of the same name. Camille Goutal thus grew up under the leadership of this extraordinary woman, an artist at heart. However, above all, she instilled in her daughter the importance of having fun and living her dreams. Camille Goutal’s ambition was to become a photographer. However, fate decided otherwise. Annick Goutal died prematurely in 1999 and Camille did not have the heart to abandon her creations. She felt in her the need to recharge her batteries in the perfumes of her mother. This is how she divided her life between her love for photography and her work in the family business.
The creations of Camille Goutal
Although Camille Goutal had been immersed in the world of perfumes since her earliest childhood, she had to learn everything about this field. Thus, Isabelle Doyen, the nose who accompanied her mother, taught her the basics of the trade. Camille Goutal’s first juices were therefore made with four hands, or rather with four nostrils. This budding designer set no limits on herself and above all left room for her desires of the moment. Staying true to the spirit of the brand’s founder, each of Camille Goutal’s perfumes are a way to tell a story. They are both subtle, anchoring themselves in precious bottles and letting a breath of elegance escape. In reality, Camille Goutal confides that her mother transmitted to her the image of a peaceful femininity, neither pretty, nor not pretty, simply good with herself. This is exactly what we find in its perfumes. Far from the worries of the luxury giants, the Goutal house is a free electron. Each of the brand launches is made without advertising, not exceeding € 20,000 budget against millions for other brands. This is a choice and gives, according to Camille Goutal, greater freedom. Some of its juices are light while others turn out to be more complex.
Among the greatest creations signed Camille Goutal, two have become particularly famous, namely Petite Chérie and l’Eau d’Hadrien. Overall, Camille Goutal is a free person and adept at letting go. Each of her perfumes reflects this vision of life and Camille simply says to herself that “the day it doesn’t work, [she] will do something else …” Her detachment is astonishing but, after all, isn’t that the key? of success and happiness?
